Heat pumps. A simpler first step.
Installation, maintenance, and repair requests for heat-pump systems.
One system, different heating and cooling behaviors
Heat pumps move heat and may behave differently from a furnace, particularly in colder weather. A technician familiar with your equipment can assess comfort, controls, airflow and performance. A brief observation alone cannot establish whether defrost, auxiliary heat or an extended run is normal for your specific system.
Useful information before you request service
- Check the selected thermostat mode and programmed schedule.
- Note outdoor conditions and when auxiliary heat or other messages appear.
- Observe from a safe distance; do not remove covers or try to force a defrost cycle.
Questions to ask your contractor
- Do you service this heat pump type and manufacturer?
- How will you assess thermostat and auxiliary-heat configuration?
- What findings support the proposed repair or replacement?
Safe checks only
Leave refrigerant, gas, wiring and internal repairs to qualified professionals. For suspected gas leaks, a carbon monoxide alarm, smoke or sparking, leave the affected area and contact emergency help from a safe place.
